FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you tailor your services to the unique needs of different councils?

We know that every council faces distinct challenges based on their geography, the demographics of their area, and local priorities or challenges. What is going to work in Wellington, isn't going to work in Gore. Our approach always begins with understanding your specific context, priorities and challenges. We then can craft solutions that address your particular needs.

How do you approach community consultation processes?

We design consultation processes to gather diverse community perspectives. This can involve combining traditional methods such as public meetings or submissions processes with more innovative engagement techniques using digital platforms or design thinking workshops. The method for consultation will depend on what you are trying to achieve, and the community perspectives you need to incorporate.

What is your experience with council-controlled organisations?

We have worked with both councils and council-controlled organisations in the past. This has included working to improve governance relationships, clarifying accountability, developing effective monitoring systems, and enhancing performance.

How do you work with elected members and council staff simultaneously?

We understand the distinct roles of elected members and council staff and also work with you to understand the relationship dynamic and established ways of working. Our approach typically involves separate but complementary workstreams, with opportunities to bring the groups together to build consensus.

How do you ensure solutions are practical and implementable within council environments?

Our recommendations always consider how the solutions will be implemented and take into account current challenges such as staffing constraints and existing system challenges. We can develop staged implementation plans, provide practical tools and templates and offer check-ins on implementation to support councils after our engagement has ended.
