You’re responsible for telling your organisation’s performance story. The measures you have may show what was delivered, but not whether things are improving for the people you serve. Working out what’s worth measuring is hard. Knowing what to do with the results is harder.

This practical session gives you guidance on generating performance measures, making sure you’re measuring what matters, and using what you collect to tell a story that holds up. That story could involve showing the difference an initiative is making or help you identify lessons that would improve how an initiative is designed or delivered. Our experts will provide practical guidance on how you can develop performance measures that will meet your needs.

You’ll learn how to work out what to measure and which measures suit it, including whether they need to vary across groups of people. Quantitative measures give you breadth, while qualitative evidence digs deeper and tells you the story. We’ll share how the two work together, and how to match them to your organisation’s capacity and capability.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to choose the right measures, including measures that pick up change, work for different groups and don’t become too burdensome

  • How to mix quantitative and qualitative evidence, capture enough data and avoid cherry-picking

  • How to match what you’re focusing on with where you are in implementing an initiative to support lessons learned

  • Tips for using AI to help develop meaningful performance measures

  • How to weave different perspectives into one narrative and consider what else might have happened

  • What a good performance narrative looks like.
